About the Technology

The UNIX operating system was initially developed in 1969 by Bell Labs. Over time UNIX has branched into various "flavors" including Solaris, HP-UX, and AIX. Corporations large and small have depended upon UNIX for their servers for years because of its reliability and functionality. The UNIX kernel makes up the core of the operating system. The shell serves as a command line interpreter that serves as an interface between the user and the kernel.
